Estimator

Due to our continued growth, we are looking for a focused and ambitious Estimator to join our dedicated team.

Contract: Full time

Location: Flexible, TBA

Salary: Negotiable, DOE

The main purpose of this role is to provide estimates for costs and time frames for projects' milestones and their eventual completion. To strive for best price bids that will win the contracts whilst ensuring they can be carried out profitably. Bearing in mind the importance of quality of the service offered, as well as cost. Whilst building client relationships and developing future business.

Day-to-Day Operations

  • Collecting information from involved parties, generating accurate estimates and then communicating this information with relevant individuals and teams.
  • Assessing materials, labour and equipment required and analysing different quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers. 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Estimating through Schucal
  • Building up the budgets through excel (from company template) & quotes through Word
  • Targeting projects that we want to do, rather than just churning out Quotes
  • Attending pre-tender, mid-bid & post tender interviews
  • Further cultivating existing contacts
  • Some Barbour ABI works to identify other contractors that are pricing the works that we have targeted
  • Managing design drawings to assist the bid / tender
  • Liaising with customers, vendors, and internal management
  • Assist in the management of the Estimating Program

Key Interfaces

All office & site personnel, including front line and management staff and contractors, internal / external auditors and regulatory bodies. 

Person specification

Experience

Must have at least 2-years’ experience working in an estimating role in the structural glass & glazing industry with the ability to fully understand construction drawings, specification documents & bill of quantities (to ensure compliance of our bid/s).
Must be comfortable discussing the projects (typically between £500k to £3m) with Main Contractors, Architects and Façade Consultants. And combine site experience with quantity surveying skills, commercial acumen and a keen mind capable of financial analysis.

Specialist Skills / Attributes - Essential

  • Full working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite to include day to day experience of excel sheets, excellent report writing skills and document management experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven information sharing ability at all levels
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • The ability to interact with people at all levels within/external to the Company
  • The ability to self-prioritise workload and manage the workload for this area
  • Must work well on their own with minimal supervision, as well as in a team setting
  • Good multitasking skills and strong problem-solving ability
  • Appreciation of data confidentiality, and to be aware of things like price trends and regulations

Other

Have a current full driving licence
Must have full access to transport to, from and during work
