Site Manager
We're looking for an experienced Site Manager to join our dedicated operations team
Contract: Full time
Location: Southampton [South UK]
Salary: Negotiable, DOE
Purpose of the position
Day-to-day management of operations on site; ensuring that the project is brought to a successful completion and meets the required time, budget and quality constraints. Main point of contact on site for the Project Management Team, assisting them as required.
Day-to-day operations & principal responsibilities
Site management & programme
- Liaise with the Project Manager to ensure adequate labour and sub-contract resource is available on site utilising the agreed labour only subcontractor list - weekly
- Requisition of labour to ensure they are done so in adequate time in line with the construction programme and in line with discussions with the Project Manager - ongoing
- Regular monitoring and liaison with the Commercial Manager/Project Manager on the Master Programme and development of stage/section programmes - fortnightly
- Supervise, manage and motivate all site team, including effective management of sub-contractor activities on site, ensuring they are engaged, on target and in line with the master programme - daily briefings
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of activity related to projects on daily Site Reports and issue to the Commercial and Project Managers - weekly
- Record and issue, to the Project Manager, labour and plant returns, maintaining adequate resources on site at all times - weekly
- Scheduling and arranging necessary courses for the team, as not to impact work activities - as required
- Manage the installation by ensuring the project is completed to design drawings. Issues to be recorded and resolved utilising the Project Team - ongoing
- Provide help and support to the installation team/s - ongoing
- Monitor, action & close out site snagging; both internally & from external sources daily
- Provide O&M information, if required
- Management of respective Site Manager workload on project extranet systems, i.e. Conject/Aconex/4 and uploading of all information into the relevant project folders - as required
- Create and maintain good relations with clients, design teams and neighbours as well as any other stakeholders
- Other ad hoc duties asked for by the Project Team, if required
Materials, plant & equipment
- Complete prestart checklist and prepare fixing kits for all installation and project related works
- Plan and efficiently organise the site facilities and logistics, ensuring all equipment on site is fit for purpose and only operated by appropriately trained staff - ongoing
- Plan, order and manage plant and access equipment in accordance with the Master Programme. When plant and access equipment is not being used, establish the viability of off-hiring - ongoing
- Requisition of materials (when required), oversee material deliveries and have awareness of site deliveries/booking systems to ensure they are done so in adequate time in line with the construction programme and procurement schedule-ongoing
- Preparation of Registers ensuring all records and equipment are up to date – ie PUWER, LOLER, PAT registers - weekly
Safety, health, environment & quality - Work hand-in-hand with the client, the architect, the main contractor and any sub-contractors to ensure that communication on Health & Safety issues is maintained at all times. Being suitably trained, qualified and up-to-date with all Health & Safety practices
- Timely preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements - as required
- Ensure workmanship and material standards are achieved in accordance with specifications, building regulations, Health & Safety legislation and quality standards - ongoing
- Prepare benchmarks, area sign offs & handover to the client - ongoing
- Sign off/completion sheets and ITP sign off sheets - as required
- Maintain and manage a respectable workface and storage areas throughout the duration of the project, to promote quality and care of the installation - ongoing
- Carrying out internal safety audits, complete and issue Health & Safety documentation requested by the client and fulfil the health, safety and welfare responsibilities (including ordering PPE) - ongoing
- Site set up. Ensure that set up is in line with statutory requirements, First Aid Kit & Accident Book, keep set of CITB SMSTS books for reference in office, write and update our Site Induction on a project specific basis
- Inductions - ensure that all operative and visitors, under our control, have attended both the main contractor’s and our own Site Inductions - ongoing
- Carry out DAB’s every morning or at the point of task change. Completed at workface, not in the office - daily
- Attend main contractor site specific meetings - daily
- Monitor the safety of the operatives under our control and keep a general eye out for the safety of all personnel on site - ongoing
- Preparation of Toolbox Talks and implement to all site personnel - weekly
Commercial & finance
- Ensuring prompt notification of variations and delays to the Project Manager and Commercial Manager whilst ensuring timely management of unforeseen delays - as required
- Adherence to contract administration procedures for site/verbal instructions and client signatories - as required
- Where day works are applicable, ensure daily sign off by the client/sub-contractor. Notify the Project Manager if signatures are unobtainable - as required
Absence & sickness
- In the case of absence, ensure that satisfactory site management is available so can undertake responsibility of all site tasks - as required
Qualifications
Essential
- CSCS Gold or Black card
- SMSTS
- First Aid at Work
Desirable
- Any other site, H&S, plant and lifting equipment qualifications i.e. IPAF, PASMA etc. plus working at height & harness awareness
Experience
Essential
5-10 years site installing experience in structural glazing
Desirable
Supervisor and management experience both internally & externally - minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role
