Client brief

Opposite Goldsmiths' Hall in the heart of the City of London, the site is at 2 Gresham Street and is bounded by Foster Lane and St Martin’s Le Strand. This 8-storey headquarters building underwent demolition and refurbishment works, completed to Category ‘A’ standard.

The works consisted of retaining the existing envelope with general refurbishment to reception space and CAT A office accommodation, alterations to core configuration and atria infills, and replacement of capital plant plus new rooftop terrace.

Our scope

On the Gresham Street elevation, Vision Arch designed and installed new FWS-60+ structural glazing / curtain walling to the reception with new concealed frame double height glazing design on the upper ground to first floor.

The St Martin’s Le Grand facade incorporated a new existing glazing / curtain walling to the second entrance with new concealed frame glazing design on the upper ground to first floor.

The final elevation on Foster Lane provided with a new existing glazing / curtain walling with new concealed frame glazing design on the upper ground to first floor.

Main entrances to the building were supplied and installed with glazed, semi-automatic, DDA-compliant pass doors.

Elsewhere, Vision Arch provided curtain walling to the internal atrium rising from the bottom of the upper ground floor to the top of the seventh floor. The full height atrium lift columns and sides were cladded with metal cladding / spandrel panels complete with a bronze finish and integrated LED strip lighting.

Roof level incorporated a new Schuco capped curtain walling system with clear glazing, double glazed bi-folding doors leading out to the roof terrace and double leaf semi-automatic pass door including access control.

The result

The refurbishment of 2 Gresham Street was completed to an excellent standard. The new atrium allows light to flood down into the core of the building during the day and at night. The integrated LED lighting provides a real architectural feature to the finished space.
